Marfy 2922 a tailored quilted blazer
Sometimes when I start a new project I know it’s going to be exactly my kind of thing, and this really is one of those occasions...
Its everything I look for in a blazer...a little different, a lot slouchy, and really comfy. Great for layering, with just the right weight for fall and with a beautiful quilted silk lining.
It’s a bit of a picture heavy post as there is a lot to cover, pockets, stand up collars, buttoned up/undone, rolled up sleeves....endless possibilities, I could have styled this for hours!
I loved using the French jacket quilting with traditional tailoring again, its become my favorite thing to do and it looks so nice when its all finished!
This is the inside front facing, because the hair canvas is supporting the fashion fabric I was able to use proper bound buttons holes, however, I only put in two and left them far apart so that the boucle remained stable.
the back...
and the original line drawing...
As I am making two jackets from the same pattern and each fabric is dramatically different I thought I would give this one a double breasted finish and the black Chanel a single breasted, just to mix it up.
I kept it simple by adding a couple of inches to each side of the front facing, removing an inch from each side of the center back and removing two inches from each sleeve, so that the front would give the illusion of slouch but the rest would look tailored and very fitted....
and wasted half a day trying to find a trim that would work with what was a very strong print. It has all kinds of colours in the weave and I eventually settled on a very traditional pearl trim. I'm not unhappy with it but will be looking out for something a little better as this was cheap and I kept hearing beads fall off it today....a lesson learned!... the blue buttons are actually a very dark navy to bring out the blue threads but I had to lighten the photo for trim details.
So overall this gets a A+, I will do a full write up next week of the entire process once I finish the second one .... I can see a few more of these being made in the future!...
Book this week...The Whisperer by Donato Carrisi....I'm half way through and can't put it down. SO good! reminds me of Stieg Larsson...
Audible...Never go back by Lee Child..I don't think one of this series has ever disappointed.
So I'm racing this week to finish the final jacket, as there is a ton of prep work to be done for Baltimore, I have not even started... and i've got two big projects planned..
and because I can't stop watching this, enjoy! boucle overload :-)
Wishing everyone a wonderful week...
