Marfy 0757 guipure lace skirt

I can't tell you how hard this was to photograph, I need a sold background I think, I'm going to try again tomorrow..as its stunning in real life...

So while I've already written everything there is to say about this Guipure skirt,  I would like to add that I am incredibly happy with it...and am wondering what to use my other yard and a half left over for!

and below are a few pics of the unfinished neoprene.  Its really just a shell, no hems or waistband at all...and it would have been better with another inch or two taken off the fit but....

I still wish it had been a keeper,  the fabric finish reminds me of a lightweight wool  and the fact that it shapes your body and is really warm, makes me think I might attempt it again with a different neoprene...

Next time I am in the garment district I'm going to smell them all before buying any!

A new look...

Anyone notice the new blog header today?!

I've been looking for an illustrator I loooooved for  almost two years without much luck,  then last month I stumbled onto Jennifer Vallez's site  and knew instantly her drawings would work perfectly with my garment photos.

I emailed her immediately and would have begged or bribed her,  had she not said yes within hours.... and a few weeks later I had the originals on my desk.....and the pdf's on my laptop.

It was such a fun collaboration, I emailed pictures, she emailed pencil sketches, we emailed about fabric details and colours, bags and shoes.... truly,  I enjoyed it so much I will probably  have new pictures made yearly!

and here they are.....whimsical, impossibly perfect and ageless!!  I adore them..........

and now - of course, my girls are begging to have pictures made of when they were young, as Jen also draws the most beautiful family portraits......and really how could  I not?!

*this is not a sponsored ad...I paid full price for my prints and not only were they very reasonable but also worth every penny !*

 Marfy free pattern jacket 1756

When I planned the sew alongs back in December, the first three months of this year were relatively free, but I now find March getting more complicated by the day.

I have visitors again for a few weeks, spring break, a week away and Susan Khaljes's camp couture to prepare for, among other things.

And as the first week of April is camp couture and I need a week to get through laundry alone when I get home -  I want to move the jacket sew along to the beginning of May.

and make it a little more complex than originally planned.

Couture tailoring, pad stitching, roll lines, stay tapes and back stays......as well as light tailoring with fusibles and how and when to mix the two.

We can talk about adding chain and trim, pattern alterations for quilting.....bound buttons holes and machine made....and anything else you ask for :)

I will have a list of supplies by the third week of April and we will begin the actual sew along on May 4th.

It will be a slow, post heavy detailed month, broken into sections so you can pick and choose.....

New project

I'm using 0757 with princess seams to quilt a little French skirt this week.  My unofficial and much appreciated sponsor Alice  gifted this vibrant,  interesting and textured boucle and I can't wait to do it justice.

Have a wonderful week.
