A Final Marfy 3171 Silk Jacquard Shantung Midi Skirt

I keep feeling that I should apologize for making these skirts, but I love them so much!

However, I'd be there first to admit that my closet has reached it's limit and my beloved Marfy pattern has now been packed away for an well earned and extended break.

I bought this amazing, eye popping Silk Shantung Jacquard from Mendel Goldberg early last year, when it first arrived....and while I don't normally wear anything this bright (and it is this bright in real life) it was so unique I had to have some.

This fabric is pure silk, so quite lightweight, with a distinct texture and a super soft pliable hand as well as being fully reversible, saturated on both sides by either a hot pink or red floral in larger and smaller patterns.

For a while, as it sat in my stash, I thought it would be the most amazing sundress, but my skirt's get so much wear and pair so well with boots and jackets, that I gave in and went with the sensible option.

And added the usual basics, like big self fabric pockets...

and a laced hem lining - l love those hidden finishes.

as well as the usual picked zipper.....

and a baby pink 4 ply silk lining.

Now for things to warm up enough to wear it again ...

I've almost finished with my new coat - I really should know better by now but I always underestimate just how long the quilting and finishing takes (white basting thread quilting guides) and it took a while this week...

But the insides are all finally sewn closed , so hems, trims and chains next, and as I've decided to make the pockets fake to keep the insides clean, I have some issues to work out with the outside flaps...

and I had to post this -  I kept being interrupted today by noses and paws, so I took some pics - my beautiful boys turned 13 this week and still managed (barely) to speed walk to the bus when my daughter arrived... they just make me melt.

Wishing everyone a very lovely Valentines Day and some warmer weather after waking up to this earlier this week....(or some cooler weather if you are in Australia!)

Leisa :-)

Disclaimer:  Although I work part time at Mendel Goldberg this fabric was purchased at full retail cost.
